일전에 웹 서핑 중에 발견한 것으로 원문은 영어였으나.. 기억나는대로 기록해 볼 까 한다.

물론 이 문제 풀이가 솔로부대를 직접 언급한 것은 아니지만 문제 풀이의 결과를 보고 위안을 받으라고 하는 의미에서 그냥 올려본다.


먼저, 여자(Woman)를 찾기 위해서는 "시간(Time), 그리고 돈(Money)"이 필요하다. 그러므로

Thunderbird 3 - 보다 편리해진 썬더버드

개인적으로 업무용 메일 클라이언트는 Thunderbird를 쓰고 있다. 사실 업무적인 Windows 환경에서는 OLE를 통해서 다양하게 복사/붙이기가 유용한 아웃룩이 좋을 수 있으나. 걸핏하면 TNEF 헤더를 남발하고 RichText라는 요상한 장식을 가미한 메일을 보내기 때문에 아웃룩을 쓰지 않는 주변 사람들을 위해서는 보다 표준적인 메일클라이언트를 쓰는게 좋을 것 같다는 생각에 지금까지 썬더버드를 쓰고 있다. (물론, 데스크탑을 Linux로 수년간 써오던 버릇도 크게 작용했다)

이번에 Thunderbird가 3.0으로 정식 릴리즈 했기에 주저하지 않고 업그레이드를 하게 되었고. 그 소감을 간략하게 정리하고자 한다.

먼저, 기존 Thunderbird의 다운로드 경로가 바뀌었다. 본격적으로 Thunderbird 프로젝트를 메시징 프로젝트로 전문화 하기 위한 냄새가 물씬 풍기는 도메인으로 보인다.

그럼 Thunderbird가 내세우는 대표적인 기능을 몇 가지 훑어보면

탭 기능

이미 Firefox로 인해 친숙해진 탭 기능이 추가되었다. 따라서 여러개의 E-mail을 열 때 단일 창에서 탭으로 탐색이 가능하게 되었다.

검색기능

개인적으로 제일 맘에 드는 기능이다. 사실 기존의 Thunderbird는 검색기능이 그렇게 뛰어나지 못했다. 하지만, 3.0부터는 검색 창에 원하는 키워드만 던지면 새로운 탭에 결과를 보여주며. 사용하지 않는 시간에 조용히 색인(Indexing) 작업을 진행해서 보다 빠른 검색 결과를 보여준다. 메일함이 2GB가 넘어가면서 검색한번 할 때 마다 조금은 답답함을 느꼈는데 이제서야 답답함이 풀리게 되었다.

보관기능

타 메일 클라이언트에도 있는 Archive 기능으로 자주 접근하지 않으나 버릴 수 없는 메일에 대해서 해당 메일에서 'A'키만 누르면 Archive folder (한글판은 저장 편지함)에 정리해서 보관해준다.

계정 설정

보다 사용자 친화적으로 바뀌었다. POP3/IMAP 관련해서 TLS 설정 및 여러가지에 대해서 고민할 필요 없이 순수하게 계정 정보만을 입력하면 알아서 알맞는 계정 타입으로 설정해 준다. 일종의 마법사 기능으로 동작한다.

편리한 주소 추가

메일을 읽을 때 메일 주소마다 오른쪽에 별 모양이 보여서 궁금해서 확인해 보니 "One-click Address Book" 기능이라고 한다. 이 기능은 단순히 별 모양만 클릭하면 주소록에 그 사용자 정보가 등록된다. 그리고 한번 더 클릭하면 삭제 또는 자세한 설정을 할 수 있는 메뉴가 나타난다. 매우 간편하게 주소 추가를 할 수 있게 되었다.

첨부파일 알림기능

메일을 보낼 때 종종 첨부파일을 첨부해야 한다는 사실을 깜박하고 보내는 경우가 있지 않은가? 나도 종종 그런 실수를 해서 다시 보내게 되는 경우가 제법 많은데 "누락된 첨부파일 확인" (설정 메뉴의 쓰기에 있다)기능을 통해서 이를 보완할 수 있다.

원리는 매우 간단한데, 흔히 첨부파일이 담긴 메일을 보낼 때 "첨부된 파일을 확인해보세요" "파일 보내드립니다" 등의 말을 쓰곤 하는데 이러한 말의 키워드가 되는 단어를 설정해 두면 메일을 작성할 때 해당 단어 등장 시 하단에 첨부파일 등록하는 걸 잊지 말라고 알려준다! 참 기특하다!

이 외에도 다양한 기능들이 추가 되었는데 해당 내용은 Thunderbird 홈페이지를 참고하거나 직접 사용해 보면 알 수 있을 것 같다.

무엇보다도 검색기능의 강화만으로도 충분히 업그레이드할 가치가 있다고 본다.

뭐가 그렇게 무섭냐?

정말 오랜만에 블로그에 글을 포스팅 하는 것 같다. 어차피 오는 사람만 오고 아는 사람만 오는 그런 블로그이기 때문에 큰 상관은 없지만 별로 볼 것도 없는 블로그에 종종 와서 새 글이 올라왔나 확인하시는 분들을 위해서 그래도 종종 포스팅을 해야겠다. 아니면 차라리 트위터라도 배워볼까?

iPhone이 국내에 출시 되었다. 물론 나도 몇 가지 좋은 상황을 맞이해서 iPhone을 사용하게 되었다. 그런데, 이 iPhone이 정식 발매가 결정되면서 부터 여기저기 너무 나도 시끄러운 모습들을 보이고 있다.

iPhone은 배터리가 분리가 안된다느니 초성 검색이 안된다느니 여러가지 이야기들이 블로그, 매체, 길거리 광고 등을 통해서 뿌려지고 있다. 마치 누군가 작정하고 깎아내리기 홍보라도 하는 듯이 인상이 찌푸려 질 정도로 시끄럽다. 과연 누가 이렇게 시끄럽게 구는걸까?

알만한 사람은 다 알 것 같다. 지금까지 셀룰러폰 시장을 쥐락펴락하던 대기업들이다. 뭐든지 자신이 시장을 지배해야만 만족을 하는 그 치들은 지금의 iPhone이 두려울 수 밖에 없다. 사실 iPhone은 어찌보면 국내에 출시되는 스마트폰 이상의 의미를 갖고 있는지도 모른다. 지금까지 통신사와 대기업에 의해서 거의 일방적으로 강요되던 것들로 부터 자유로운 스마트폰이라고 해야 할까나.

물론 애플이 완벽한 것은 아니지만, 대기업들은 애플의 좋은 점은 좀 본 받아야하지 않을까 하는 생각이 든다. 무조건 자기들이 시장을 지배해야하고 자기들이 만든 상품과 그 상품의 틀 안에서 가두려고 할 것이 아니라 기본 적인 자신들의 컨셉과 계획만을 충실하게 (정말 중요하다 정말 충실해야한다) 이행만 하면 된다. 부족한 부분은 중소기업들이 다양한 옵션을 통해서 맞춰 줄 수 있는 방식을 선택하도록 하면된다. 이러한 방식이 가져다 주는 잇점은 정말 다양한 취향의 사용자들에게 적합한 (아니, 사용자가 직접 자신에게 적합한 형태로 맞추는 것) 상품을 제공할 수 있는 것이다.

국내 휴대폰 제품의 악세사리만 봐도 알 수 있다. 정말 거기에서 거기다. 하지만, iPhone의 악세사리를 보면 정말 기발한 제품이 가득하다 (물론 이런게 하루아침에 이루어진 모양은 아닐지라도) 사용자의 지갑을 완전히 털어버릴 정도로 말이다.

그리고

사용자들은 훌륭한 하드웨어만을 고집하지 않는다. 시끄럽게 떠드는 대기업이 CPU 클럭속도 강조하는게 참으로 한심해 보이기 까지 하다. (게다가 실제로는 더 빠른칩도 아니지 않는가?) 적절한 하드웨어와 사용자를 위한 소프트웨어가 준비되면 사용자는 충분히 만족할 수 있다. 예전부터 국내 제품의 최대 불만은 하드웨어가 아니라 소프트웨어 였다. (모 대기업에 다닌 지인에게 들은 이야기지만 애플에서도 국내 대기업의 하드웨어 제조기술은 최고라고 인정하고 있다. 하지만, 그걸 받쳐주는 소프트웨어가 엉망이지 않은가?)

떠드는 모습이 이제는 무서움에 덜덜 떠는 것으로 밖에 보이지 않아. 동정심 마저 들기도 한다.

그렇게 무서우면 다른 제품 깎아 내릴 에너지를 지금이라도 좀 정신 차리고 사용자를 위한 태도에 사용하는 것은 어떨까?

배터리 일체형/초성 검색불가와 같은 것들에 대해서 iPhone 사용자는 과연 모르고 구매하는 것일까? 그러한 불편함도 보완할만한 뭔가가 있다는 생각은 정말 들지 않는 것일까? (그렇다면 큰 문제일 수 있다) 그 뭔가를 찾는게 중요하다고 생각되는데 말이다.
