Mac OS X - Snow Leopard

얼마전에 애플에서 새로운 운영체제가 등장했었습니다. 바로 Snow Leopard라는 녀석입니다. 기존 Leopard의 뒤를 잇는 이 녀석은 '새롭다'라는 느낌을 바로 주는 녀석이라기 보다는 Leopard를 신기술과 접속시키고 보다 다듬었다고 봐야할지 모르겠습니다.

실질적으로 OpenCL을 비롯한 다양한 기능들과 개선사항은 현재 Leopard를 쓰는 사용자에게 크게 다가올만한 요소는 아닙니다. 어플리케이션에서 OpenCL을 염두해 두고 개발하지 않았을테니 이 기술을 비롯한 많은 요소가 빛을 발하기 위해선 시간이 더 필요할 듯 합니다.

하지만, 무엇보다도.. 저를 망설이게 한건.. 북미 애플홈페이지에서 $29의 가격이라고 홍보하고 있어서 대충 잡아도 4만원은 안되겠구나.. 잽싸게 한국 애플 홈페이지로  들어갔는데

야간 근무 서는 도중 제 노트북이 시퍼런 화면을 보여줍니다.... '망할  MS맛스타...' 그러다 문득 구글OS 이후 행보가 궁금해서 구글 공식 블로그에 다녀왔습니다.....

(이 망할 맛스타는 비정상적 오류에서 복구되었다면서 부팅에만 5분이 걸리네요.. 맛스타 스티커 떼어버릴까...)

많은 분들이 이미 뉴스에서 접했을 구글 OS (정식 명칭은 구글 크롬 OS) 올해 말 쯤이면 개발자들을 위한 본격적인 소스 오픈이 진행될 거 같습니다. (Google Chrome OS는 오픈소스죠)

2010년 중반이면 넷북에 본격적으로 탑재할 예정이라는데.. 뭐, 지켜봐야겠죠 아무래도.. (사실 안드로이드 할 때 부터 알아봤지만...)

구글 크롬 OS 때문일까요.. 크롬브라우저의 개발자 버전은 이미 4.0 릴리즈로 넘어가버렸습니다. 버전업 속도가 장난이 아니네요...

사실 예전에 많은 사람들이 구글만은 제발 OS개발만은 하지 말기를 바라는 말들이 있었는데... 구글이 본격적으로 구글 OS를 발표한 이상... 그 사람들의 기대는 무너졌군요...

뭐, 하지만 성격이 전혀 다른 OS이기에 걱정도 되고 한편으로는 좋은 점도 있을 듯 합니다. 아시다시피 구글OS는 구글크롬브라우저에 기반한 웹 운영체제 (새로운 개념은 아닙니다.. 이미 GoodOS에서 작년에 Cloud라는 웹OS에 대한 컨셉을 발표했었습니다) 이기 때문에 고성능이 아닌 조그마한 넷북에는 최적의 운영체제일 수 있습니다.

구글이 이미 구글닥스(http://docs.google.com)와 여러 웹 어플리케이션 서비스를 준비해 놓은거 보면 크롬 브라우저 하나만으로 인터넷 웹 서핑, 메시징, Documentation 등등 못할게 사실 없으니깐요.

뭐, 물론 게임은 웹기반 게임 밖엔 없지만.... 뭐, 목적이 명확한 OS이다 보니.. (우리나라 학부모님에겐 희소식 MacOS와 더불어 아이들을 게임몰입을 방해할 OS가 추가되었습니다.... 뭐, 요샌 꼬마 아이들은 키즈짱, 쥬니버에 있는 플래시 게임가지고도 오랫동안 잘 놀더군요...) 웹에서 정보를 찾고.. 이를 가공하고.. 정리하는데 있어서 구글OS로도 충분하기 때문에 잘하면... 넷북용 말고도 업무용 OS로 자리 잡아 버릴지도 모르겠네요...

'무서운 구글사마.. 이젠 당신 하나로 안되는게 없구려....' 웹서핑, 검색, 이미지, 동영상, 블로깅, 메일, 3D모델링, 문서작성, 메신저, 번역, 모바일.. 게다가 오픈소스 Geek들과도 매우 절친한 구글이기에 우리 빌 아저씨처럼 심심하면 패러디/비난/난도질 당할 일은 없겠군요..

먼 훗날... 웹기반OS가 아닌 기존의 디스크기반 OS를 쓰는건 엔지니어밖에 없는 시대가 오면 어쩌나 싶네요.. (아.. 좋은건가..) 혹, 못보셨을지도 처음 듣는 얘기일지도 모르는 분을 위한 구글 크롬 OS의 서비스 샷 (더 많은 사진은 구글 신에게 물어보세요... )

참고로.. 저는 크롬을 쓰지 않습니다... 이유는.. 성격이 안좋아서... 인 것도 있지만.. 예전에 크롬 브라우저가 사용자 패턴을 분석하려고 제가 돌아다니는 URL을 수집하길래.. 그냥.. 안쓰고 있습니다.. (지금도 그러는지는 모르겠네요)

나는 구글사마만 곁에 있으면 아무런 걱정/근심이 없다 하시는 분은... gOS를 한번 설치해 보세요... Ubuntu 기반의 배포본중 하나인데 Google에 최적화 되어있고.. (최적화란게 다른건 아니고 구글 웹어플리케이션을 구동하기 편리하게 되어있습니다..) 대충 모양새는 MacOS X의 그것과 흡사합니다.
